호주 여행과 관련하여 쿠나바라번 관광 담당자로부터 이메일을 받은 것이 있어 공유차원에서
이곳 게시판에 올려놓습니다.

쿠나바라번 관광사무소 측에 겨울 날씨에 대해서 물어보고, 근처 괜찮은 숙박지가 있는지 등을 질문했더니
날씨에 대한 정보와 함께 별보기에 적당한 숙박지 등을 추천해주었습니다.

그리고, 고마운 소식 한가지는... '행크 사토'(이름으로 보아 혹시 일본계 호주인이 아닌가 싶기도 합니다.)라는
아마추어가 우리를 도와주기로 했다는군요...

이 사람은 장래에 아마추어 천문가를 위한 관측용 숙박지를 만드는 계획을 추진하고 있는 사람이라고 하는데...
영호(Anglo-Austrailian)천문대 또는 사이딩스프링 천문대에도 직접 데려다 주고 우리를 위해 특별한 방문 프로그램을
만들어주겠다고 약속을 했다고 합니다.... ^^;; 정말 고마운 일이네요...

한가지 팁도 얻었는데, 쿠나바라번 근처의 Dubbo 공항까지 비행기를 타고 오면 쿠나바라번까지는 겨우 2시간 거리라는군요.
시드니에서부터 차로는 7시간 정도가 걸린다고 하구요.

게다가... 아주 멋진 관측 장소와 숙박지에 대한 안내도 있었는데, 사전 예약이 필요하고, 먹거리를 직접 준비해야 하는
문제점이 있기는 한 모양입니다. 하지만, 그곳에 있는 망원경을 사용할 수도 있을 것이라고 하니... 자세한 내용은
Mr. Sato와 이야기를 해봐야 할 것 같네요.

인원이 확정되면, 최종 항공 목적지를 어디로 삼아야 할지도 같이 이야기를 해봐야 할 듯 싶습니다.
(저는 시드니로 택하고 싶습니다. 15년전에 가보기는 했지만... 그래도 오페라 하우스랑 하버 브릿지는 봐야하지 않을까
싶어서 말이죠... ^^;;)

Hello Hyuk.

I am responding to your request for information that you sent on the 12th
February.

Perhaps Mr Hank Sato may have also contacted you .. Mr Sato is an amateur
astronomer that I have been working on a special project with and I asked
him to assist me with a response. Mr Sato's project is exciting .. a new
observatory with a 40" telescope, accommodation and equatorial mounts for
visitors telescopes and cameras. The project is called .. Coonabarabran
International Cosmos Firm - CICF.

Now to explain again about the weather and cloud cover that we experience
.. you will know that Coonabarabran was chosen for Siding Spring
Observatory because it has such nice clear, dark skies .. and lots of clear
nights. We are very proud of our observatories and work very hard to make
sure there is no light pollution in the area.

Mr Sato explained to me that we have more than 70% clear nights in Coonabarabran and in the winter
months - June to August - 80% of the nights are clear for sky viewing.

The weather in July for Coonabarabran is very cold nights .. our early morning
temperatures can be as low as -10 degrees celcius but the days are
arbetween 12 and 17 degrees celcius - nice warm sunny days follow very cold
nights.

You have possibly heard that the weather here this summer has been wet and
cloudy. This was a very unusual season as the northern part of Australia
was affected by cyclones and we had a lot of cloud cover and rain from the
cyclones .. but this is now finishing and winter is not the cyclone season
so there will be little or no turbulence and cloud.

You have asked about accommodation .. Mr Sato is involved in an
accommodation and observatory project so I will suggest that you look to
accommodate at The Acacia Motor Lodge in Coonabarabran and Mr Sato will be
able to take you star gazing at Milroy .. maybe the Milroy accommodation
will be available for your group so when you email the Motor Lodge ..
explain to them that you are amateur astronomers and would prefer to use
the Milroy accommodation if it is available.

Mr Sato has also agreed to take your group to Siding Spring Observatory
for.  special tour .. Siding Spring Observatory has many telescopes that
are not available for public viewing but with Mr Sato you will get to visit
some of these and see the work they do .. but your nights will be at Milroy
using some of their telescopes and your telescopes.

If you are able to stay at Milroy you will need to prepare your own meals
.. and Mr Sato is also an excellent cook so he may also cook for you.

I am not sure how you people plan to travel to Coonabarabran .. there are
QANTASLINK flights to Dubbo which is 2 hours away .. you will need to hire
a vehicle in Dubbo to drive to Coonabarabran. Otherwise you can hire a
vehicle from Sydney airport and drive right to Coonabarabran .. it takes
about 7 hours from Sydney.
